Writing an MBA Essay For My StudentI am currently working on an MBA essay for one of my students. This is probably the last time that he will be taking the exam, and since we are trying to help him better understand what to expect from it, this is a great chance to also teach him the right strategies for writing a good essay.Let's start by thinking about the question in general. Most students probably do not take the MCAT seriously. They just want to get into a college, to go out and make money, to get married, and to enjoy life.It might seem silly, but most students don't bother to put a lot of thought into their essays. Instead, they write things like, 'My friends say that I would have to work harder to do well at MCATs, but it is actually much easier than doing well in college.' That may sound true, but it is not true.The MCAT is a test of quantitative reasoning, analytical reasoning, and verbal skills. It takes all these skills and combines them in order to measure how good or ba d you are at solving problems. It has very little to do with anything else.What is the main thing that students should be putting in their essay? It should go something like this:I have taken some general student tests in school to help me prepare for MCAT. One of the tests, called the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), was an extremely difficult test to do well. It asked for the same type of reasoning skills that I would use at school.In order to do well on the MBA exam, I had to answer questions about real people. The GRE was like that, but I didn't see much point in it. The fact that the MBA degree is far more complicated than the school program makes it difficult to answer questions about real people.
